Cause: ex-sceptre. built in 187 by w grey & co, west hartlepool. owned at time of loss by the glasgow navigation co. two boilers, triple expansion engine of 244nhp, single shaft. machinery by central marine works, hartlepool. passage cardiff for rouen. torpedoed on port side by u-96. 11 men lost. (sibi).

BUILDER'S PLATE RECOVERED MARKED: 'WM GREY & CO LTD, SHIP NO 5040, 1897'. CONFIRMED AS BEING NYASSA. WRECK COLLAPSED WITH ONLY BRIDGE SCREEN STANDING. (G J POUND, TELECON 14.11.12).
