Cause: built in 1899 by c s swan & hunter ltd, newcastle-upon-tyne. owned at the time of loss by newcastle steamship co. three boilers, triple expansion engine of 293 nhp, single shaft. machinery by ne marine engine co ltd, newcastle-upon-tyne. passage bilbao for middlesbrough. was mined and sunk 1m s of start point. 20 lives lost. (ww1sl, dods & sibi).

SHE LIES IN A SHOAL, HER STERN BEING UPPERMOST AND TOWARDS THE SHORE ON A LINE NNW BY SSE WITH HER HULL APPARENTLY INTACT. (MR HOBBS, WK SURVEY GROUP, 18.4.67). H3112/68 6.11.68 H3112/68 6.11.68 VESSEL HAS A LIST TO STARBOARD OF ABOUT 20DEGS AND IS SUNK INTO THE SANDBANK ON WHICH SHE RESTS, SO MUCH SO THAT SAND IS ONLY JUST SHORT OF THE STARBOARD BULWARKS. MOST OF THE WK IS IN A DEPTH OF 110FT BUT SUPERSTRUCTURE IS IN 80FT. HULL IS VERY BADLY BROKEN. THE FIRST 60FT OF THE BOW IS COMPLETELY DEMOLISHED, VIRTUALLY EVERYTHING WHICH CAN BE BROKEN OFF, SAWN OFF OR OTHERWISE REMOVED IS MISSING. WHOLE WK IS ALIVE WITH MARINE LIFE OF ALL DESCRIPTIONS. PIECES OF WK ARE NOT WIDLEY SEPARATED. DIVED ON 11/12.8.68. (MR J BROOKS, 24.10.68). H2396/77 11.3.77 H2396/77 11.3.77 ROCKY BOTTOM AND TURBULENCE ON FULL EBB COMPLETELY MASK THE WK ON SONAR TRACE.
