Cause: built in 1898 by grangemouth dockyard co, grangemouth. owned at time of loss by orders & hanford ss co ltd. two boilers, triple expansion engine of 185hp, single shaft. machinery by hutson & son, glasgow. passage the tyne for scapa flow. sank quickly after a loud explosion under the vessel, no submarine or torpedo track having been sighted. crew taken off by patrol vessel. no lives lost. (sibi).

HH091/155/01 19.1.10 SEP 2010/000027978 EXAM'D 15.6.09 IN 5732.102N, 0142.240W (SIC) [WGD] USING DGPS. LEAST M/B DEPTH 36.91 IN GEN DEPTH 46.7MTRS. NO SCOUR. LENGTH 88MTRS, WIDTH 19MTRS, HT 9.8MTRS. LIES 155/335 DEGS WITH BOW SE. STRONG MAGNETIC ANOMALY. SE 40MTRS OF WK COLLAPSED. (GARDLINE HYDRO, HI 1155). LONGITUDE GIVEN AS 0144.240E IN ROS. AMEND WK 36MTRS IN REVISED POSN. BR STD. HH100/351/16 21.8.00 DIVED IN 5732.090N, 0144.235W [WGD] USING DGPS. LEAST E/S DEPTH 41 IN GEN DEPTH 42MTRS. LENGTH 85-90MTRS, WIDTH 12MTRS. STANDS 5MTRS HIGH BY DEPTH GAUGE. MODERATE SONAR SIGNAL STRENGTH. SCOUR 1MTR DEEP EXTENDS 90MTRS TOWARDS 180 DEGS. DEBRIS EXTENDS 45MTRS TOWARDS 180 DEGS. SEABED SMALL ROCKS, GRAVEL AND BROKEN SHELLS. WK LIES IN ONE PIECE BUT THE BOWS ARE TOTALLY FLATTENED FWD OF THE TRIPLE EXPANSION ENGINE. THEIR OUTLINE IS, HOWEVER, CLEAR. THE TWO LARGE BOILERS LIE FWD OF THE ENGINE BUT ON THE SEABED. STERN SECTION IS UPRIGHT AND COMPLETELY INTACT WITH REMNANTS OF THE CARGO OF COAL IN PLACE. GUN (?12 POUNDER) MOUNTED ON THE STERN BUT NO SHELL CASES. NUMEROUS .303 BULLETS LYING ALL OVER THE STERN SECTION. RUDDER AND STEEL PROP INTACT. COMMERCIAL GUARD REQUESTED. (J LEIGH/B HUMBY, LTR DTD 15.8.00). AMEND POSN. BR STD. 15.3.13 CINC DELETED. MORE THAT FIVE YEARS.
