Cause: ex-helga. built in 1908 by dublin dockyard co, dublin. owned at time of loss by the irish government. one boiler, twin triple expansion engines of 1390 hp, twin shaft. machinery by r rowan & co, glagow. was built for fisheries protection work with the dept of agriculture & technichal instruction for ireland. requisitioned at the outbreak of ww1 as an armed patrol yacht. fitted with 1 x 12pdr & 1 x 3pdr guns. sank a german submarine in the irish sea in april 1919. sold back to the irish goverment in 1922 and remained a fishery protection vessel until the late 1940s. sank while under tow to haulbowline where she was to broken up by hammond lane ltd. crew recovered by a welsh trawler.
