Cause: ex-standard. built in 1890 by armstrong mitchell & co. owned at time of loss by standard oil co, new york. two boilers, triple expansion engine of 225 nhp, single shaft. machinery by wallsend slipway co ltd, newcastle-upon-tyne. passage new york for portsmouth. 2 x 3 inch guns. torpedoed and sank at once by the stern. remained afloat with stern on the seabed in 34fms. eventually sunk by explosive charges as was a danger to shipping.
