Cause: built in 1889 by the grangemouth dockyard co of alloa. machinery by alley & maclellay of glasgow. owned at time of loss by w adam of burghead. single boiler, triple expansion engine of 60 hp, single screw. passage sunderland for burghead. cargo coal. foundered and lost in nw force 11.

LIES 045/225 DEGS WITH BOWS TOWARDS 045 DEGS. SCOUR 1MTR DEEP EXTENDS 45MTRS 045/225 DEGS. SEABED FINE SAND. INTACT WITH SLIGHT LIST TO PORT, NO DEBRIS. STRONG MAGNETIC ANOMALY. BELL RECOVERED INSCRIBED 'MORAY'. ONLY MORAY KNOWN WAS LOST ON 17.11.1893. GENERAL POOR CONDITION OF THE METAL OF THE SHIP COULD BE FROM THAT AGE. BRIDGE TELEGRAPH ALSO LOCATED, WHICH WOULD BE UNLIKELY ON THE DIESEL POWERED FREYA. NO ENGINE OR BOILERS LOCATED AS THE SUPERSTRUCTURE HAS COLLAPSED INTO THE DECKING. DECKING COMPLETELY ROTTED AWAY. TWO LARGE WINCHES LIE TOWARDS THE BOW AND A CABIN ACCESS SHELTER DOORWAY STOOD JUST BACK FROM THE BOW. COMMERCIAL GUARD REQUESTED. (J LEIGH/B HUMBY, LTR DTD 15.8.00). NCA. 15.3.13 CINC DELETED.
