Cause: ex-cleopatra. built in 1898 by earle & co, kingston-upon-hull. owned at time of loss by atlantic transport co. four boilers, triple expansion engine of 894 nhp, single shaft. passage london for new york. was badly off course and struck maen voes rock and foundered within 15mins. 106 of the 149 passengers and crew onboard were lost. (R DAVIS & R LARN). NCA. H1288/83/361 19.3.84 DIVED ON IN 1982. LIES IN 500302N, 050204W [OGB]. COMPLETELY FLATTENED, PLATE ON PLATE, WITH BOW FACING W. STANDS 4MTRS HIGH IN GEN DEPTH 24MTRS. (S HUMPHREY). POSN APPEARS TO BE TOO FAR TO E FOR GEN DEPTH QUOTED. FILE IN 500302N, 050216W. HH090/521/01 27.1.92 NOT EXAM'D DUE TO PROXIMITY OF ROCKS. (HMS BULLDOG, HI 521). NCA. 6.7.98 STATED AS LYING ON VARSES ROCK. (CORNISH SHIPWRECKS). STATED AS LYING ON OUTSIDE OF VOICES IN 500240N, 050233W. (DIVER GUIDE TO SOUTH CORNWALL). POSNS GIVEN DIFFER TOO MUCH TO CHART. 27.11.98 DIVED ON 14.10.98, CENTENARY OF VESSEL'S SINKING. 'VAST BOILERS LIE VISIBLE AMONG PLATES AND METAL SPARS IN 26MTRS OF WATER. BR STD. 26.4.13 LOCATED 6.3.13 IN 5002.748N, 0502.662W [WGD]. LEAST M/B DEPTH 12.12 IN GEN DEPTH 17MTRS. NO SCOUR. LENGTH 55.5MTRS, WIDTH 18.2MTRS. LIES 010/190 DEGS. CONFIRMED TO BE 60MTRS W OF PREVIOUS LISTED POSN. BROKEN UP WITH 4 BOILERS CLEARLY REMAINING. (NETSURVEY, HI 1406). PLOTS IN GEN DEPTH 5MTRS ON ROCKY PATCH. POSN CONSIDERED INCORRECT.
