Cause: built of iron in 1884 by william doxford & sons, sunderland for the gwynedd shipping co, liverpool (w e jones, carnarvon). a four masted sailing vessel. sold in 1896 to roberts, owen & co, liverpool. later transferred to a single ship company. passage antwerp for cardiff under tow of nord zee (l smith & co) with silver sand as ballast. tow parted in increasing wind. the ballast shifted and the vessel capsized and foundered. 10 men lost.
