Cause: built in 1911 by j caird & co. owned at time of loss by peninsular & oriental steam navigation co. quadruple expansion engines of 1164 hp. passage from india for london, via plymouth. (this vessel was used as the royal yacht during the world tour of 1912). torpedoed by ub-31. six engine-room staff killed, 411 passengers & crew saved. (dods).
