Cause: built in 1880 by palmers' company, newcastle-upon-tyne. owned at time of loss by j h anning. one boiler, compound inverted engine of 99 nhp, single shaft. passage glasgow for odessa. was struck by ss argus whilst at anchor prior to commencement of voyage. vessels remained locked together and crew abandoned to ss argus. argus backed away and mary anning sank. wreck was later flattened. (sibi).
