Cause: 6.3.83 built of iron in 1864 by messers leslie & co, hebburn-on-tyne. owned at time of loss by gibson & somerville, leith. (m campbell gibson, leith, manager). one boiler, compound expansion engine of 120hp, single shaft. machinery by r & w hawthorn, newcastle-upon-tyne. sailed burntisland 6.3.83 for dunkirk and not seen again. george gibson gave vessel up as lost and published a crew list on 16.3.83. (rec'r of wk, annual report 2004 & r young).

DCS3 HT 5.1MTRS, LENGTH 60MTRS, BEAM 8MTRS. LIES 150/330 DEG, WITH NW HALF OF WK INTACT WHILE SE HALF IS VERY BROKEN UP. CHART AS WK 48MTRS. (LAND & MARINE, HI 414B). BR STD. 23.3.04 HAS BEEN IDENTIFIED AS 'MARIE STUART' BY ENGINE MAKER'S PLATE. (REC'R OF WK, ANNUAL REPORT 2004). NCA. SEP 2017/000002822 3.5.17 EXAM'D 13.12.16; IN 5434.763N, 0033.654W [WGD]. LEAST M/B DEPTH 47.39MTRS IN GEN DEPTH 52MTRS, LENGTH 61.1MTRS, WIDTH 8.2MTRS, HEIGHT 5.26MTRS, ORIENTATION 155/335 DEGS. WRECK APPEARS TO BE UPRIGHT AND INTACT, BUT IS SEVERELY DISINTEGRATED. (MMT, HI 1491). AMEND NDW 47MTRS IN REVISED POSN.
