Load: general and mixed goods,personnel

Cause: built in 1910 by clyde shipbuilding & engineering co ltd, port glasgow. owned at time of loss by leith, hull and hamburg steam packet co. two boilers, triple expansion engine of 142 nhp, single shaft. machinery by the builders. passage le havre for newport. struck mine fwd and sank. crew recovered by ss celte. (sibi).

Details measurements/cartography: SEP 2009/000188817 14.12.09 DIVED 3.8.09 IN 5011.115N, 0540.273W [WGD] USING GPS. ESTIMATED LENGTH 80MTRS, WIDTH 15MTRS. STANDS 3MTRS HIGH BY E/S AND MEASUREMENT. WK RETAINS OVERALL SHAPE BUT IS COLLAPSED TO A GENERAL HT OF 1MTR ABOVE SEABED. ENGINE, DRIVE SHAFT AND 4 BLADED PROP ALL CORRECTLY ALIGNED. STEERING QUADRANT UPRIGHT. MAIN BOILER ALONGSIDE WK IS THE HIGHEST POINT AND HAS A SMALLER BOILER ATTACHED TO IT, POSSIBLY A DONKEY BOILER. CONSIDERED TO BE LUXEMBOURG AS VESSEL WAS CONFIRMED BY DEPT OF TRANSPORT AS CARRING USED 18PDR CARTRIDGE CASES FROM THE WESTERN FRONT. A NUMBER OF THESE EMPTY CASES ARE SCATTERED AROUND THE WK. THE REMAINDER WERE SALVAGED IN THE 1970S/80S. (G J LOCKETT, REPORT DTD 13.8.09). INS AS NDW. BR STD.
