Cause: 9.10.71 built in 1956 by furness shipbuilding co ltd. owned at time of loss by london & overseas freighters, ltd. on passage from novorossisk to genoa. dragged her anchor in a fierce gale while anchored off genoa, then struck a breakwater and sank. the stern section was raised on 9.10.71, and towed out to deep water. 5 days later, it was sunk 90m from genoa, between the italian mainland & corsica. the fore section was eventually broken up where it lay. 20 lives lost. declared a constructive total loss.
