BEARING SOUTH BELL BUOY IN LINE WITH SALTWICK NAB, WITH NORTH CHEEK ROBIN HOODS BAY JUST CLOSING ABEAM. LINE LOOKING DOWN STREET ON WEST CLIFF, WHITBY, TO STEEPLE OF CHURCH IN SAME STREET. KNOWN LOCALLY AS SS SPARROW OF LONDON, TORPEDOED DURING THE WAR. (HM CUSTOMS & EXCISE, WHITBY, 25.8.36) INS AS WK PA 8FMS [14.6MTRS] IN 543048N, 003701W. BR STD. 28.1.75 POSITION CONFIRMED BY HSA. WK LIES BOWS NORTH AND IS LARGELY DISPERSED EXCEPT FOR TRIPLE EXPANSION ENGINE AND A SINGLE BOILER ABOUT 10FT DIAMETER. HIGHEST PARTS ARE ENGINE AND STERN. (DIVER'S REPORT, VIA K MCLEAN, 28.1.75).
