BEARING SOUTH BELL BUOY IN LINE WITH SALTWICK NAB, WITH NORTH CHEEK ROBIN HOODS BAY JUST CLOSING ABEAM. LINE LOOKING DOWN STREET ON WEST CLIFF, WHITBY, TO STEEPLE OF CHURCH IN SAME STREET. KNOWN LOCALLY AS SS SPARROW OF LONDON, TORPEDOED DURING THE WAR. (HM CUSTOMS & EXCISE, WHITBY, 25.8.36) INS AS WK PA 8FMS [14.6MTRS] IN 543048N, 003701W. BR STD. 28.1.75 POSITION CONFIRMED BY HSA. WK LIES BOWS NORTH AND IS LARGELY DISPERSED EXCEPT FOR TRIPLE EXPANSION ENGINE AND A SINGLE BOILER ABOUT 10FT DIAMETER. HIGHEST PARTS ARE ENGINE AND STERN. (DIVER'S REPORT, VIA K MCLEAN, 28.1.75). H1280/76/42 26.2.76 FROM WRECK LOCATION, WHITBY BELL BUOY NO LONGER ALIGNS WITH SALTWICK NAB BUT IS SLIGHTLY OPEN WITH IT. THE BUOY BROKE ADRIFT IN THE WINTER OF 1974-75 AND WAS REPLACED EITHER IN A SLIGHTLY DIFFERENT LOCATION OR WITH LONGER MOORINGS. (J STEVENSON). DCS3 HT 5.4MTRS. LIES 020/200DEG OVER AN AREA 105 X 20MTRS AND IS VERY BROKEN UP AND DECAYED. HIGH POINTS ARE AMIDSHIPS AND AT N END. THERE APPARENTLY ARE NETS ATTACHED TO THE WK.
