Cause: vessel, built in 1881 by c. mitchell & co., newcastle-upon-tyne, struck maen chynoweth while en-route london to newport. later slipped into deep water. (shipwreck index of british isles vol.1 & cornish shipwrecks).

Details measurements/cartography: 3.3.70 WK LIES BOWS AGAINST THE MORAL ROCK (MAEN CHYNOWETH) STERN TO THE LITTLE MORAL ROCK AND 35-40FT DEEP. HEAVILY BROKEN. ONLY REMAINS OF DOUBLE BOTTOM FOUND. SCATTERED REMAINS OF RIGGING, BLOCKS, ANCHORS AND STERN POST PROVIDE INTERESTING DIVE. (R DAVIS). NCA, EXISTING SCALES TOO SMALL. H1282/77/116 4.5.77 REPD LOST ON MORAH ROCK NEAR PORTHHOUSTOCK. (P R JONES, 25.2.77). NCA. 6.7.98 HEAVILY SALVAGED IMMEDIATELY AFTER LOSS. THERE ARE STILL CONSIDERABLE AMOUNTS OF STEEL PLATING AND FRAMES. LIES IN 500312N, 050306W IN GEN DEPTH 14MTRS ON ROCKY BOTTOM WITH SAND FILLED GULLIES. (DIVER GUIDE TO SOUTH CORNWALL, 1983). NCA. HH100/351/15 16.2.00 DIVED IN 1995 IN 5003.335N, 0502.830W [WGD] USING DGPS. WELL BROKEN UP. HT BY DEPTH GAUGE 2MTRS. LIES NNE/SSW WITH BOWS NNE. SEABED SAND & ROCK. (J ROSEVEARE). INS AS NDW. BR STD. 18.3.01 FOLLOWING A VISIT TO UKHO AND DISCUSSION WITH CB1A, ON 15.3.02, J ROSEVEARE HAS RE-ASSESSED THE DATA SUPPLIED ABOVE AND BELIEVES DGPS POSN TO BE IN ERROR, AND RECOMMENDS AMENDING TO NDW PA. (J ROSEVEARE/G FURSE, TELECON 18.3.02) BR STD. HH100/351/18 27.3.02 MIDSHIP'S POSN IN RELATION TO CHARTED ROCKS: 5003.280N, 0503.156W [WGD]. LIES NNE/SSW, BOWS NNE. (JASON ROSEVEARE E-MAIL DTD 20.3.02) AMEND TO NDW PA IN REVISED POSN. BR STD. HH100/351/22 7.6.05 POSNS AT EITHER END OF WK ARE: 5003.313N, 0503.136E & 5003.296N, 0503.101W [WGD]. HIGHEST POINT AT N TIP STANDS 1.5MTRS ABOVE SEABED IN GEN DEPTH 15MTRS. VERY BROKEN WITH ONLY PLATES AND RIBS REMAINING.
