Cause: vessel, built in 1905 by tyne iron s.b.co., newcastle-upon-tyne and owned by lewis lougher & co., was stranded & wrecked in thick fog at porth hellick, st mary's, whilst employed as an admiralty collier. she was on a voyage from cardiff to alexandria. BADLY BROKEN UP AND DEBRIS SCATTERED OVER A WIDE AREA. LOCALLY BELIEVED TO BE THE 'LADY CHARLOTTE', BUT COULD BE THE SS 'BROADFIELD', WHICH SANK IN 1960. (R KINGSFORD/CURRAN, GODALMING, SURREY). NCA. (SUB AQUA CLUB, 28.2.69). 20.10.69 20.10.69 THE FRONT HALF OF THE VESSEL LIES ROUGHLY E/W WITH THE BOWS TO THE W IN 30FT OF WATER. THE STERN HALF LIES ROUGHLY NW/SE, WITH THE STERN TO THE SE IN 85FT OF WATER. THE VESSEL IS BADLY BROKEN UP, BUT THE STERN AND THE BOILERS ARE FAIRLY INTACT. APPROX 1CWT OF COPPER, BRASS AND LEAD WAS BROUGHT UP FROM THE WK, AND HANDED TO THE RECEIVER OF WKS IN ST MARY'S.
