Cause: built in 1895 by wigham richardson & co, newcastle-u-tyne. owned at time of loss by city of cork steam packet co. two boilers, triple expansion engine of 437 nhp, single shaft. passage liverpool for cork. torpedoed by u-104. 29 men lost. (dods, ww1sl & sibi).archival analysis: u104's ktb states the ship was struck in the stern by a single torpedo and sank in four minutes. the survivors stated the shipimmediately and quickly sank by the stern (tna adm 137/1515).

H4827/75 24.1.77 WK LOCATED 9.11.76 IN 532816N, 0051109W [OGB] USING HIFIX/6 [2 LOP]. LEAST E/S DEPTH 64.4 IN GEN DEPTH 75MTRS. DCS3 HT 11MTRS. LENGTH 90MTRS; LYING SW/NE. HULL APPEARS TO BE COMPLETE. (HMS FOX, HI 54/76).
- NM 551/77. 14.2.23 WRECK SURVEYED 10/7/2019: MBES DATA SHOWS CARGO VESSEL UPRIGHT AND POINTING SW, LENGTH 79MTRS, WIDTH 10.3MTRS. THESE DIMENSIONS ARE CONSISTENT WITH VESSEL "KENMARE". THIS WK TOO SMALL TO BE HOLYHEAD. (INNES MCCARTNEY BOOK "ECHOES FROM THE DEEP"). UPDATE "KENMARE" AND ATTRIBUTES.
