Cause: 19.7.18 ex-statendam. under construction in 1914 by harland & wolff, belfast for holland-americka line. work stopped on outbreak of ww1. was requestioned by the admiralty and completed in 1917 as a troopship. twelve boilers, two 4 cylinder triple expansion engines & exhaust turbine, triple shaft. passage liverpool for new york in convoy. was attacked by u54, u64 & u124 off nw coast of ireland on 19.7.18. the engine room was hit & vessel taken in tow, but was attacked again following day, hit in port side & sank stern first. survivors were taken off by escort hms marne which succeeded in sinking u124. (dods, krieg zur see & sibi).
