Name: JOSE DE ARAMBURU

Length 85 meter, width: 12.5 meter, draught: 6.7, tonnage 2388 ton
Load: ferrous elements and ores: unrefined and refined,ore

Cause: built in 1902 by cia transatlantica, cadiz. owned at time of loss by minera catabro-asturina soc. two boilers, triple expansion engine of 202nhp, single shaft passage bilbao for cardiff. ran onto lee ore rock in fog, drifted off and sank in deeper water. (e giles).

Details measurements/cartography: H2979/74 22.11.74 WK LOCATED IN 500201N, 054136W USING DECCA. STANDING ABOUT 20FT HIGH, ON MAINLY SANDY SEABED. WK IS OPENED OUT & FLATTENED. THE LEVEL OF THE WK IS FAIRLY EVEN AT 10FT WITH BOILERS (INTACT) AT 12FT TOWARDS THE BOW. A MASS OF WRECKAGE REACHES UP TO ABOUT 20FT FROM THE SEABED. LYING WITH BOWS S. (E GILES, 9.11.74). INS AS WK 24MTRS. BR STD. H2979/74 12.5.76 WK FOUND IN 500151.96N, 054135.256W USING DECCA. (E.GILES, 1.4.76). AMEND POSN. BR STD. HH100/35/14 13.11.98 DIVED IN 500145N, 054129W [OGB] USING GPS. LIES ON SANDY SEABED, GENERALLY FLATTENED BUT RETAINING ITS OVERALL SHAPE. BOILERS AND DRIVE SHAFT INTACT. CARGO OF IRON ORE SPREAD OVER WRECKAGE AND ONTO SEABED. HIGHEST POINTS ARE NUMEROUS 'LAMP POST' STANCHIONS OF 200MM DIAMETER SOLID STEEL WHICH STICK UP FROM THE WK 5-6MTRS. KNOWN LOCALLY AS THE 'LAMP POST' WRECK. (G J LOCKETT, 11.11.98). AMEND POSN. BR STD. SEP2016/000259165 28.02.17 NOT LOCATED BY M/B SURVEY. (MMT, HI1500). NFS. RETAINED DW 24MTRS.
