Cause: 8.11.1936 built in 1922 by deutsche werft, hamburg. owned at time of loss by the hamburg-amerika linie. oil engines of 717nhp. passage hamburg for new york. reported to be in distress with no 1 hatch stove in on 8.11.1936 in 493400n, 110900w. several ships went to her assistance but she sank before help arrived. one survivor of the crew of 40, a cabin boy, was picked up by ss 'westernland'.
