Cause: after suffering storm damage while on passage glasgow for rio de janeiro, returned to uk for repairs and restowing of cargo. ran ashore in scratchells bay. (back of wight). vessel, built 1889 by j reid & co., port glasgow. owned at time of loss by j.d. clink, greenock. 7 lives loss, 28 rescued. (mr p mead & sibi)

FURTHER INVESTIGATION AT LWS TO BE CARRIED OUT. (SCESU, REPORT OF PROCEEDINGS, 5.10.82). NCA YET. H4469/81 4.8.83 H4469/81 4.8.83 LIES VERY CLOSE TO DRYING ROCK, IN 503933N, 013457.5W [OGB] USING TRISPONDER [2 LOP]. LEAST E/S DEPTH 2.5 IN GEN DEPTH 4-5MTRS. (SCESU HI 97). EXISTING SCALES TOO SMALL, CHARTED DRYING RK VIRTUALLY IN THIS POSN.
