Cause: Built in 1899 by r dixon & co, middlesbrough. owned at time of loss by bailey & leeham, hull. two boilers, triple expansion engine of 188hp, single shaft. passage buriana, via venice, for london. general cargo including oranges. collided with german vessel 'washington'. following collision was steamed towards worthing and sank one mile s of worthing pier.

LC 2450. 4.8.69 REPD TO HAVE BEEN CARRYING CARGO OF ORANGES WHEN SUNK. PIECES OF WRECKAGE SCATTERED OVER SEABED. (TRITON MAGAZINE, AUG '69, P.108) 23.2.70 CHAIN AND SINKER STILL THERE BUOY MISSING, VERY GOOD FOR FISH, CORRECTLY CHARTED. (VISIT BY R P WATTS ESQ, SUB-AQUA DIVER, TO WKS SECTION 23.2.70).

WK WAS COMPLETELY SURROUNDED BY CRAB POTS. (FSL WATERWITCH, HI 73/76). AMEND TO WK 4.0MTRS, RETAIN ORIGINAL POSN. BR STD. 7.4.82 REPORTED AS BADLY BROKEN UP, BUT WITH LARGE SECTIONS STILL TO BE FOUND. STANDING 2MTRS HIGH IN GEN DEPTH 7MTRS. (BSAC WK REGISTER, VOL III). HH090/944/01 19.10.01 EXAM'D 12.10.01 IN 5047.067N, 0022.332W [WGD] USING DGPS. SWEPT CLEAR 1.2, FOUL 1.3MTRS. LEAST E/S DEPTH 3.9 IN GEN DEPTH 5.3MTRS. NO SCOUR. COVERS 70 BY 40MTRS. LIES APPROX NW/SE. AN AREA OF BROKEN UP WRECKAGE. DIVING INVESTIGATION COMFIRMS THAT WK IS COVERED BY LARGE AMOUNT OF DUMPED HEAVY STEEL WIRE (APPROX 1"). MASS OF WIRE STANDS IN VERTICAL LOOPS ABOVE THE WK. (NP 1016, HI 944D). BR STD. SEP 2019/000094901 19.05.19 EXAM'D 21.10.18 IN 5047.064N, 0022.325W [WGD]. LEAST M/B DEPTH 2.78 MTRS IN GEN DEPTH 5MTRS. LENGTH 91.5MTRS, WIDTH 25.5MTRS, HEIGHT 1.8MTRS, ORIENTATION 172/352 DEGS. AN AREA OF BROKEN UP WRECKAGE. (CLINTON MARINE SURVEY AB, HI 1561).
