Cause: built in 182 by short brothers. owned at time of loss by lumsden, byers & co. foundered and sank three quarters of a mile e of souter point following collision with ss pierremont. 20 lost. (r young).

BR STD. 27.9.99 PREVIOUSLY THOUGHT TO BE 'BEN ARDNA'. HH100/351/15 27.9.99 WK IS THAT OF 'ILIOUS'. LIES ON A HARD SANDY SEABED. WAS 8MTRS HIGH IN 1971 BUT HAS NOW COLLAPSED. BOWS ARE REASONABLY INTACT, BUT THE REST OF THE WK IS WELL BROKEN UP. BOILERS ARE STILL STANDING NEXT TO THE ENGINE BLOCK, WHICH IS SMASHED OPEN AND LYING ON ITS SIDE, SHOWING ALL OF THE LARGE BRONZE BEARINGS. WK HAS BEEN WELL SALVAGED, THE ANCHOR CHAIN AND PROP SHAFT HAVING BEEN REMOVED A LONG TIME AGO. (R YOUNG). SEP 2019///000043627 26.3.19 EXAM’D 26.3.19 IN 5458.732N, 0120.765W [WGD]. LEAST M/B DEPTH 17.79MTRS IN GEN DEPTH 22MTRS. LENGTH 100.2MTRS, WIDTH 33MTRS, HT 5MTRS, ORIENTATION 124/304DEGS. HEAVILY BROKEN UP WITH SCATTERED DEBRIS. (MERITAITO, HI 1513).
