Name: HYACINTH (POSSIBLY)

Length 21 meter, width: 6 meter, tonnage 39 ton

Cause: built in 1901 of iron. caught fire off maiden island. fire which started in engine room spread rapidly. crew rescued by passing boat. hull was towed to kerrera side of oban bay. photo. (shipwrecks of the w of scotland & off scotland).

- NM 1741/22. H1286/75 4.8.75 CONFIRMATION OF POSN. AT LOW TIDE 8FT OF STERN PROJECTS FROM WATER. NO MASTS SEEN. WK COVERS AN AREA 75FT X 15FT X 15FT. BOW LIES IN 10FT AT LOW WATER. (A LAW, 31.7.75). 28.5.82 DESCRIBED AS STEAM PUFFER. IRON HULL ALMOST INTACT BUT BROKEN IN TWO. BOW & FUNNEL ALWAYS ABOVE WATER. LIES E/W, BOWS W. (BSAC WK REGISTER, VOL V). FROM SKETCH POSSIBLY LIES TO S OF CHARTED POSN. NCA YET. HH100/351/03 30.11.90 POSN AND DIMENSIONS CORRECT. CONSIDERED NOT TO HAVE BEEN A S PUFFER. HAS NO MASTS AND FUNNEL LIES TO ONE SIDE. ONE END STILL SHOWS ABOVE HIGH WATER. (K WATSON, 2.11.90). 1995 WK OF IRON HULLED VESSEL, POSSIBLY FV HYACINTH, VISIBLE AT ALL STATES OF THE TIDE. BOWS STAND 3MTRS ABOVE WATER AT LW, WITH VERTICAL BOILER PROTRUDING ABOVE FO'C'SLE. KEEL AT THE STERN IN 3MTRS OF WATER. PHOTO.
