Shipwreck details

Name: HMSM C 29

Length 43.6 meter, width: 4.1 meter, tonnage 321 ton

Cause: Built 1909 by vickers, barrow. mined.c29 was one of 38 c-class submarines built for the royal navy. c29 was involved in the u-boat trap tactic. the tactic was to use a decoy trawler to tow a submarine. she was mined when her trawler ariadne strayed into a minefield in the humber estuary on 29 aug 1915, with a loss of 16 men.

LEAST E/S DEPTH 29.5 IN GEN DEPTH 33.2MTRS. SCOUR DEPTH 33.5MTRS. DCS3 HT 1.5MTRS, LENGTH 28MTRS, WIDTH 8MTRS. LIES 057/237 DEGS. APPARENTLY ON ITS SIDE WITH HIGHEST PART AT SW END. (NP 1008, HI 413). BR STD. 28.9.95 DIVED ON AND FOUND TO BE POSSIBLY AN `A' CLASS SUBMARINE SOME 100FT X 13FT. SINGLE 3 BLADED PROP. NO CONNING TOWER OR GUN. (V J FOX, VIA GUS BRITTAIN, SUBMARINE MUSEUM, TELECON 25.9.95). NCA. 10.5.07 EUT POSN: 5353.067N, 0130.284E. NE 1187. 8.6.09 WK WAS MARKED AND POSSIBLY DIVED BY SCARBOROUGH FISHERMAN AND DIVER FRED NORMANDALE.
