Cause: built in 1922 by camel laird. three boilers, tripel expansion engine, single shaft. requisitioned for use as auxiliary fighter catapult ship. sunk during machine gun and bomb attack by german aircraft, which was itself shot down. the co, cdr d m b baker, 7 officer and 31 ratings were killed.

UPRIGHT BACK TO NO 3 HOLD WHERE THE VESSEL WAS BROKEN BY THE DIRECT HIT. FROM THIS POINT TO THE STERN SHE IS TWISTED THROUGH 90 DEGS WITH THE DECKS NEARLY VERTICAL. HURRICANE LAUNCHING TRACK REMAINS ON BOW. BRIDGE STILL RECOGNISABLE BUT ROOF PARTIALLY COLLAPSED. AA GUNS STILL ON BRIDGE WINGS WITH EMPTY SHELL CASES AROUND THE BASES. FUNNEL AND VENTILATORS HAVE GONE LEAVING ONLY HOLES. NETS ON WK. (R YOUNG, 17.9.99). HH090/843/01 28.12.99 EXAM'D 1.7.99 IN 5531.420N, 0126.098W [WGD] USING DGPS.
