Cause: 8.9.14 built in 1899 by harland & wolff, belfast for the oceanic ss nav co. taken over by admiralty from 8.9.14 for service as auxiliary cruiser. twin four-cylinder triple expansion engines totalling 28,000hp for 20.7kts, twin shaft. passage southampton for shetland. ran aground on rocks off foula island in broad daylight. (sibi). ran aground in dense fog. (dods).

AREA FROM JUST FWD OF THE ENGINES TO THE STEERING GEAR AT THE STERN LIES CORRECTLY ORIENTATED THOUGH MAINLY LEVELLED TO THE HEIGHT OF THE INTACT, TWIN DRIVE SHAFTS. THIS INCLUDES MOST OF THE DOUBLE HULL. WRECKAGE, WHICH CONSISTS MAINLY OF HULL PLATES, LIES FWD OF THE MOSTLY INTACT ENGINES TO THE LARGE ANCHOR WINCHES. 3 OF 15 HUGE BOILERS SEEN TO BE STILL INTACT NE OF THE ENGINES.
