Cause: 27.11.1915 built in 1903 by j caird & co, greenock for the p & o steam navigation co. seven boilers, twin triple expansion engines of 1588nhp, twin shaft. hired as an armed metchart cruiser 27.11.1915 and purchased for the rn in 01.1916. passage usa for southampton. torpedoed & sunk by ub-57. 56 american soldiers were lost. (p & o steam nav co, dods & sibi).

H4121/76 25.6.76 WK 28.2MTRS IN 502308.4N, 002843.2W. LEAST E/S DEPTH 28.2MTRS. WK LYING, ON ONE SIDE, 040/220DEGS. LENGTH APPROX 600FT, WIDTH 125FT. (HMS FAWN, SIG DTD 25.6.76).

TWIN SCREWS SEEN. NO MASTS OR FUNNEL SEEN. QUITE A FEW TRAWLS LYING ON WK. TWO 6INCH GUNS SEEN ON THE DECK. WK LOOKS LIKE A WW ARMED MERCHANT SS. UNABLE TO IDENTIFY. H1289/76/351 21.11.76 THIS WK IS REPORTED TO BE UNDOUBTEDLY THAT OF THE 'MOLDAVIA DEFINITELY A P&O BOAT AS A NUMBER OF P&O DINNER PLATES HAVE BEEN SALVED. (R D SOUTHERN, 18.10.76). H1310/84/28 23.8.84 REPD TO LIE ON PORT SIDE. DEPTH TO TOP OF STERN, WHICH IS INTACT, 90FT. FOR'D SECTION HAS COLLAPSED. 10 GUNS [? 6 INCH] ONBOARD, ENGINES AND BOILERS NOT YET EXPOSED. IN GEN DEPTH 140-160FT. (K MCDONALD, 15.8.84). NCA. HH090/952/01 31.10.03 EXAM'D 3.7.03 IN 5023.177N, 0028.819W [WGD] USING DGPS. SWEPT CLEAR 33.3, FOUL 33.8MTRS. LEAST E/S DEPTH 32.9 IN GEN DEPTH 47MTRS. NO SCOUR. LENGTH 176MTRS, WIDTH 41MTRS. DCS3 HT 16.5MTRS. LIES 025/205 DEGS WITH BOWS TOWARDS 205 DEGS. STRONG MAGNETIC ANOMALY. INTACT, LIES TOWARDS ONE SIDE. SMALL AREA MISSED DURING SWEEP. ON FURTHER ATTEMPT THE WK WAS FOUND TO BE BUOYED. (GARDLINE, HI 952). RETAIN AS WK 28MTRS IN REVISED POSN. BR STD. 7.4.17 STATUTORY INSTRUMENTS, DEFENCE NO 147/2017. COMING INTO FORCE 3.3.17. AMEND "HISTORIC".
