Shipwreck details

Name: HMS LISTRAC (PROBABLY)

Length 59.7 meter, width: 8.5 meter, draught: 4.6, tonnage 778 ton

Cause: 3.7.40 built in 1907 by forges & c de la mediterrane, havre. one boiler, triple expansion engine of 72nhp, single shaft. formerly a french auxillary patrol vessel. seized by rn at portsmouth 3.7.40. used as an anti-submarine patrol vessel from 8.40. passage portsmouth for anti-submarine duties and return. sunk by gunfire from german surface craft. (colledge & south coast shipwrecks). also referred to as hm trawler l'istrac.

H6894/55 7.1.56 LOCATED IN 502554N, 011936W USING DECCA. LEAST E/S DEPTH 15FMS IN GEN DEPTH 19FMS. (HMS SCOTT, 5.11.55). 4.7.96 REPD TO BE A WW2 CASUALTY AS A SHELL CASE DATED 1932 WAS FOUND BY A GUN MOUNTING. SHE IS A SS, 130FT LONG, 10FT HIGH AT THE BOILERS AND THEREFORE, IS UNLIKELY TO BE THE `TWEED'. (J MARKHAM). NCA. HH100/351/12 24.2.97 IDENTIFIED AS BEING HMS LISTRAC. CONFIRMED FROM A NUMBER OF SOURCES. (R RIMMER). HH100/351/14 26.3.99 LOCATED IN 5025.883N, 0119.683W [OGB] USING DECCA. NOT 'TWEED'. IS AN ARMED FRENCH VESSEL, PROBABLY 'LISTRAC'. (M PRITCHARD, 9.3.99). RETAIN AS WK 27MTRS IN REVISED POSN. BR STD. HH090/962/01 9.12.02 EXAM'D 30.7.02 IN 5025.889N, 0119.720W [WGD] USING DGPS. SWEPT CLEAR 28.6, FOUL 28.9MTRS. LEAST E/S DEPTH 28.6 IN GEN DEPTH 35MTRS. NO SCOUR. LENGTH 68MTRS, WIDTH 24MTRS. DCS3 HT 5.6MTRS. LIES 070/250 DEGS. POOR MAGNETIC ANOMALY. DEBRIS EXTENDS 26MTRS TOWARDS 070 DEGS.
