Cause: launched in 1936 by swan hunter, wigham richardson ltd, wallsend-on-tyne. twin turbines of 34,000shp for 35.5 knots. 4 x 4.7 inch ha guns, 8 x 21 inch torpedo tubes. sunk during the first battle of narvik. the squadron of six vessels were engaged by five german destroyers. in the ensuing battle the leader, hms hardy, was beached in flames and hunter sank after receiving heavy fire and colliding with hms hotspur. EXAMINED BY ROV AND IDENTIFIED BY THE CREST, WHICH WAS STILL READABLE. SITE AND WRECK HAVE NOT BEEN DISTURBED. (NORWEGIAN JOINT HQ, SIGNAL DTD 2.3.08). INS AS NDW. BR STD.
