Cause: protected cruiser hms hawke, built 1893, sank within a few minutes after being torpedoed by u9 in n sea, whilst on duty as part of northern patrol. vessel was hit abreast the foremost funnel, no distress signals were sent, nearly 500 lives were lost, 70 survived.
