Length 150 meter, width: 20.1 meter, draught: 7, tonnage 13785 ton

Cause: 2.7.42 ex-rio de janeiro. converted from c-3 merchant vessel in 1941 by the sun shipbuilding company. transferred to the royal navy 2.7.42 on lend-lease. oil engines of 8500bhp. one 4 inch aa gun, four 40mm aa guns, eight 20mm aa guns. 15 aircraft. sank following petrol fire & explosion, thought to have been caused initially by aircraft attempting to land on carrier. 148 crew safe, 379 lost. (sibi).

H1922/76 25.2.76 NOT DETECTED BY DCS3 IN AREA SEARCH. NO CLOSE SEARCH OF POSN UNDERTAKEN. DEFINITELY DOES NOT PROJECT TO WITHIN 100MTRS OF SURFACE. (HMS HECLA, ROS DTD 6.2.76). NCA. H1310/81/2 23.1.81 HMS DASHER REPD TO HAVE SUNK IN 553736N, 050048W. POSSIBLY THIS WK. H1922/76 16.4.82 POSITIVELY IDENTIFIED AS WK OF HMS DASHER. LIES UPRIGHT IN 170 MTRS, WITH FLIGHT DECK INTACT AT 140MTRS. (NAVAL PARTY 1007, M.V. 'SEAFORTH CLANSMAN', DTD 23.3.82). NCA. H1922/76 17.4.84 LEAST DEPTH BY E/S 95MTRS IN 553744N, 050055W. (HMS BEAGLE, SIGNAL DTD 27.3.84). BR STD. H2885/83 13.5.85 EXAM'D 25.3.84 IN 553745N, 050053W [OGB] USING TRISPONDER [4 LOP]. LEAST E/S DEPTH 94 IN GEN DEPTH 142MTRS. SCOUR 8MTRS DEEP. DCS3 HT 38MTRS, LENGTH 160MTRS APPROX. APPARENTLY UPRIGHT, LYING E/W WITH RAISED BRIDGE TOWARDS W END. SEVERAL SMALL CONTACTS LOCATED AROUND MAIN WK. (HMS BEAGLE, HI 165B). BR STD. HH100/351/16 31.10.00 WK IS UPRIGHT, AT A STEEP ANGLE, WITH THE BOWS W. THE WOODEN FLIGHT DECK HAS ROTTED AWAY IN PLACES. GEN DEPTH 170MTRS AT THE STERN TO 131MTRS AT THE BOW.
