Cause: built in 1917 by pembroke dockyard. yarrow boilers, turbine engines of 40,000 shp for 29 knots. eight 4 inch aa guns, several smaller. on escort duty with a convoy from america bound for the clyde while escoring rms queen mary. in thick weather queen mary's lookout reported a submarine on the port bow. the liner altered to stbd. curacoa, at full speed and steaming for the submarine, crossed the bows of the cunard liner and was struck midships and cut in two. both parts passed each side of the queen mary and sank. 25 officers and 313 ratings were killed. the captain and 25 others were rescued.
