Cause: grounded on rocks at southward well after parting her cables in a south easterly gale. she had arrived from the mediterranean with a valuable collection of early greek vases.

(HMS HECATE, ROS DTD 16.7.73). H2529/74 19.5.75 WK REPORTED TO LIE IN 495511N, 062102W [OGB] SPREAD OVER LARGE AREA. APPLICATION MADE FOR DESIGNATION AS AN HISTORIC WRECK. (R MORRIS, 15.2.75). 495515N, 062102W [OGB] CONSIDERED BETTER POSN. (DEPT OF TRANSPORT - HISTORIC WK COMMITTEE). INS AS HIS, REST'D AREA RADIUS 300MTRS, IN 495515N, 062102W [OGB].
