Cause: steel vessel, ex- sapphire, built in 1912 by john brown of clydebank as a steam yacht for the duke of bedford, with 3 cylinder triple expansion engine, single shaft & 2 boilers. she was taken over by the admiralty during ww1 as an auxillary patrol vessel at gibraltar. having been returned to her owner at end of ww1 she was purchased in 1939 as a convoy leader and converted to submarine tender in 1940. damaged in collision with a submarine. had to be beached. fwd section of wk is broken, after section is intact. (b baird, argyll shipwrecks & sibi).
