Name: HMS ALBION II

Length 36.7 meter, width: 6.6 meter, draught: 3.6, tonnage 192 ton

Cause: built in 1907 by smith's dock & co, north shields for the patent steam trawling co, milford. one boiler, triple expansion engine of 68nhp, single shaft. machinery by w v v ligerwood. hired from 1915 and renamed albion ii as another albion was in service. struck mine laid by uc-5. (srn, ww1sl & d c wendes).

Details measurements/cartography: SUNK OFF ST. CATHERINE'S POINT. (WW1SL). H4469/81 4.8.83 H4469/81 4.8.83 EXAM'D 16.9.82 IN 503817N, 013411W [OGB] USING TRISPONDER [2 LOP]. POSSIBLY A WRECK BUT STATED BY LOCAL FISHERMEN TO BE A LARGE OUTCROP OF ROCK. LEAST E/S DEPTH 20.5 IN GEN DEPTH 23 TO 24MTRS. (SCESU). INS AS OBSTN 20.5MTRS. BR STD. HH100/351/13 30.1.98 HH100/351/13 30.1.98 THIS CHARTED OBSTN IS A SMALL WK WITH A SINGLE BOILER AND A SMALL TRIPLE EXPANSION ENGINE. THE BOW STANDS NO MORE THAN 2MTRS CLEAR AND THE STERN NO MORE THAN 1MTR CLEAR. PARTS OF THE HULL ARE VISIBLE, BUT GENERALLY THE WK IS BURIED IN SAND AND SHINGLE. POSSIBLY THE ADMIRALTY TRAWLER 'ALBION II', BUT MORE DIVING IS NEEDED TO CONFIRM THIS. (D C WENDES, 28.1.98). AMEND TO WK. BR STD. HH100/351/14 26.3.99 HH100/351/14 26.3.99 LOCATED IN 5038.533N, 0134.317W [OGB] USING DECCA. CONFIRMED AS WK OF OLD STEAMER. VERY BROKEN, ONLY PART OF THE BOILER AND ENGINE SEEN STANDING 2-3MTRS HIGH. SEABED SAND AND MUD. (M PRITCHARD, 9.3.99). NCA. 28.4.05 28.4.05 THIS IS 'ALBION II'. CONFIRMED BY GUN PEDESTAL. (D C WENDES, PERSONAL VISIT). NCA. 24.10.12 24.10.12 EXAM'D 28.1.12 IN 5038.350N, 0134.274W [WGD]. LEAST M/B DEPTH 22.47 IN GEN DEPTH 25MTRS. LEAST W/C DEPTH 21.67MTRS. SCOUR 0.4MTR DEEP. LENGTH 40MTRS, WIDTH 7MTRS, HT 2MTRS. LIES 125/305 DEGS. STRONG MAGNETIC ANOMALY. PARTIALLY BURIED OR BROKEN UP WITH ONLY ONE CLEAR FEATURE PROUD OF THE SEABED WITH MAX HT 2MTRS. (EMU, HI 1366). AMEND WK 21.5MTRS IN REVISED POSN.
