Shipwreck details

Name: HMS ACHERON (STERN SECTION)

Length 98.5 meter, width: 10.1 meter, draught: 3.7, tonnage 1350 ton

Cause: built in 1930 by thornycroft & co. three boilers, turbine engines for 34,000hp, twin shaft. passage from portsmouth for trials and return. 4 x 4.7 inch, 2 x 2pdr guns. 8 tt. mined and broke in two. bow section sank at once. 151 crew and dockyard trials team lost. mined and sank off the isle of wight. 151 lives lost.
