Cause: ex- pacific lily '94, ex- gomba nile '80, ex- balakram '79, ex- gomba endeavour '78. built in 1978 by mazagon dock ltd, bombay, with 12 cylinder oil engine of 3180bhp, single shaft. owned at time of loss by green lily corp, bahamas. on passage lerwick for las palmas & ivory coast. suffered engine failure and drifted in heavy seas. taken in tow by m tug/supply vessel 'gargarno', but tow broke. went aground in force 12 se winds. broke up on grounding near bard head. 15 crew rescued but winchman of rescue helicopter lost. BR STD. 18.3.09 WITHIN A MONTH OF THE STRANDING THE ONLY RECOGNISABLE PART OF THE SHIP WAS THE VERY TIP OF THE BOW IN ABOUT 24MTRS OF WATER. THE REST OF TE WRECK LYING IN 10-15MTRS COMPLETELY SMASHED TO PIECES. (SHIPWRECKS OF N OF SCOTLAND) NOT SHOWN ON BA 3271 [2004 EDN]. INS F IN 6008.469N, 0108.117W [EUT]. BR STD.
