Length 134.1 meter, width: 16.2 meter, draught: 9.1, tonnage 6807 ton

Cause: ex-galician. built in 1900 by harland & wolff, belfast. owned at time of loss by the union castle mail ss co. triple expansion engines of 375nhp, ?twin shaft for 12.5 knots. passage newport for brest to embark wounded. torpedoed and sunk by uc-56. captain burt and 94 of the crew were among the 153 lost from a total complement of 186.

BR STD. HH100/351/17 18.7.01 HH100/351/17 18.7.01 DIVED IN JUNE 01. UPRIGHT, INTACT STERN LIES TO THE N. ALMOST CERTAINLY THE GLENART CASTLE. (N R CHIPCHASE). NCA. 10.7.03 10.7.03 DIVED IN LISTED POSN. CONFIRMED AS GLENARD CASTLE BY RECOVERED CROCKERY. (I MCCARTNEY, TELCON). NCA. 19.1.08 19.1.08 DIVED 11.6.05 IN LISTED POSN. BOW FACING IN WESTERLY DIRECTION, SCOUR DEPTH 3MTRS. MAIN BELL RECOVERED CLOSE TO THE STERN & CLOSE TO THE REAR OF THE AFT ACCOMODATION. STERN SHOWS SOME SINKING DAMAGE. WK LOOKS RELATIVELY INTACT THOUGH MOST OF THE WOODEN DECKING HAS GONE AND MUCH OF THE SUPERSTRUCTURE HAS STARTED TO COLLAPSE. (TP WOODCOCK, LTR DTD 11.1.09). NCA.
