Cause: Ex-else, ex-schulte '45, ex-worthtown, ex-empire worthtown. built in 1939 by john lewis & sons, aberdeen. owned at time of loss by the williamstown shipping co. triple expansion engine, single shaft. passage blyth for cowes. cargo coal. had been sunk at dunkirk during the evacuation and later salvaged by the germans. served under the german flag in ww2. handed over to the ministry of war transport with 90 other ships captured as prizes of war and subsequently sold. took water and headed for scarborough. sank 30 minutes after the last distress call. turned over within 7 minutes and sank.
