Cause: ex- blue triangle, built 1920 at hog island, p.a., with 3 cylinder triple expansion engine, 4 boilers, single shaft. owned at time of loss by american export lines, new york. on passage hull to new york. struck 2 mines after straying into an allied minefield and broke in two. crew of 43 & 27 armed guard rescued after taking to lifeboats. (sibi, i easingwood, b baird)

LEAST M/B DEPTH 37.1 IN GEN DEPTH 53MTRS. NO SCOUR. LENGTH 126.4MTRS, WIDTH 28.5MTRS, HT 15.9MTRS. LIES 075/255 DEGS. STRONG MAGNETIC ANOMALY. LARGE, UPRIGHT WK BROKEN AT NE END. NO DEBRIS FIELD. (GARDLINE, HI 1152). POSSIBLY "DESABLA". INS AS WK 37MTRS.

- NM 4719/07. 16.1.09 16.1.09 LOCATED & DIVED ON 8.8.08. LARGE VESSEL, UPRIGHT ON SEABED IN GEN DEPTH 53MTRS. LYING E/W AND OUTLINE VISIBLE FROM A DEPTH OF 25MTRS. OPEN HOLDS SEEN SO DEFINITELY NOT THE TANKER "DESABLA". BRIDGE AREA AT DEPTH 38MTRS. GUN TUB WITH GUN LYING ON SEABED; ANOTHER GUN TUB WITH GUN INTACT AT THE BRIDGE AREA; COMPASS BINNACLE, STEERING PEDESTAL & TELEGRAPHS IN PLACE IN BRIDGE. CROCKERY RECOVERED MARKED "AMERICAN EXPORT LINES" WHICH IDENTIFIED WK AS EXMOUTH. PHOTOS & DRAWING SUPPLIED. (I EASINGWOOD, E-MAIL DTD 13.1.09) IDENTITY AMENDED. NCA.
