Name: EXCELSIOR (POSSIBLY)

Length 22.6 meter, width: 5.4 meter, tonnage 62 ton
Load: scrap metal,ferrous elements and ores: unrefined and refined

Cause: built of wood in 1904 by john chambers, lowestoft. owned at time of loss by j a baker, southwick. one boiler, compound expansion engine of 15 hp, single shaft. passage portsmouth for newport. cargo scrap metals. sprang a leak & foundered.

H1945/76 28.9.81 H1945/76 28.9.81 WK LOCATED IN 504029N, 014452.5W [OGB] DURING BASIC SOUNDING. NOT FURTHER EXAM'D. LEAST E/S DEPTH OBTAINED 15.6 IN GEN DEPTH 18MTRS. (SCESU, HI 81/78). CHART AS WK 15.6MTRS.

- NM 2385/81. 28.4.05 28.4.05 UNABLE TO LOCATE WK. SEABED IS ROCK. THERE IS AN ISOLATED ROCK PATCH WHICH HAD THE APPEARANCE OF WRECKAGE. ALTHOUGH THERE WAS A MAGNETIC ANOMALY, NO WRECK WAS FOUND. (D C WENDES, PERSONAL VISIT). NCA. 25.10.12 25.10.12 EXAM'D 27.1.12 IN 5040.500N, 0144.950W [WGD]. LEAST M/B DEPTH 17.65 IN GEN DEPTH 18.6MTRS. LEAST W/C DEPTH 17.08MTRS. SCOUR 0.6MTR DEEP EXTENDS 15MTRS N. LENGTH 45MTRS, WIDTH 15MTRS, HT 0.6MTRS. NO MAGNETIC ANOMALY. LINEAR DEBRIS MOUND WITH SEDIMENT ACCUMULATED ON S SIDE AND SCOUR TO N. (EMU, HI 1366). AMEND WK 17MTRS IN REVISED POSN.
