Cause: positional analysis: the wreck lies 9nm south of the position given by the 2nd mate, one of the few survivors (tna adm 137/1362). the position given in uc75's ktb is vague, but the position on its patrol track chart plots 10.6nm north ofthe wreck.archival analysis: the wreck appears to be pointing in the general direction eskmere was steering when sunk. it sank in three minutes after being torpedoed in the region of nos 3 8< 4 holds. the torpedo is reported to have blown out both sides of the ship, which then sank atonce (tna adm 137/1362).

BR STD. 14.2.23 WRECK SURVEYED 16/5/2019: MBES DATA SHOWS WRECK, CARGO SHIP WITH BOW AND STERN BROKEN DOWN, WK APPROX 66MTRS IN LENGTH AND 12.2MTRS IN WIDTH. WRECK OF "ESKMERE VERY SIMILAR IN WIDTH, BUT DIFFICULT TO MEASURE LENGTH, DUE TO WK BEING MUCH DEGRADED. (INNES MCCARTNEY BOOK "ECHOES FROM THE DEEP"). UPDATE OBJNAM TO "ESKMERE" AND ATTRIBUTES.
