Cause: 14.2.41 ex-carso '41. built 1923 by stabliment techico triesto, trieste. completed as carso for lloyds triestino.triple expansion engine, single shaft. scuttled 14.2.41 atkismayn, italian somaliland when port was captured by british forces. passed to the ministry of war transport and renamed empire tana. was extensivly damaged in a multiple collision in fog on 9.2.44 off casablanca and was declared not worthy of repair. sunk in june 1944 as part of goosebury 5, sword beach, ouistreham. raised in 1947 and towed by tug zealandia for strangford lough for scrapping. grounded in and could not be refloated. lay half-submerged from 1947 to march 1966 when during salvage ops a depth charge exploded.
