Cause: 22.9.40 ex-andrea, ex-germaine ld, ex-eastney. built in 1921 by northumberland shipbuilding co. owned at time of loss by ministry of shipping (runciman shipping co). requisitioned in 1940 and renamed empire adventure. triple expansion engine of 370nhp, single shaft. mustered off liverpool for convoy ob216 with 27 other vessels on passage the tyne for wabana, newfoundland. convoy attacked 22.9.40 by u-138, was torpedoed but remained afloat. taken in tow by tug 'superman' but sank on 23.9.40. 21 men lost.
