Cause: built in 1915 by w pickersgill, sunderland. owned at time of loss by sharp & co ltd. two boilers, triple expansion engine of 299nhp, single shaft. passage chatham for cherbourg. struck a contact mine, probably laid by uc-36. was abandoned but did not immediately sink. crew recovered by patrol trawler. (sibi).

(TH).H1720/65 6.11.78 LARGE MOUND & STRONG MAGNETIC ANOMALY LOCATED IN 503800N, 005844W [OGB] USING DECCA. APPEARS TO BE COMPLETELY BURIED. A LARGE HOPPER SHIP WAS DUMPING IN AREA & HAS CAUSED MANY PEAKS ON E/S TRACE. NO ACTUAL WRECKAGE FOUND. (M WALSH, 20.8.78). CHART AS FOUL. BR STD. H1310/85/26 23.8.85 WK LOCATED IN 503800N, 005840W [OGB] USING DECCA. VESSEL IS MUCH BROKEN BUT THERE IS CONTINUITY OF WRECKAGE. THE STERN LISTS 40DEGS TO STBD. HIGHEST PART ARE BOILERS, ENGINE & STEERING QUADRANT. CARGO OF RAILWAY BOGIES & WHEELS LIE SCATTERED THROUGHOUT WRECKAGE. HEIGHT 18FT IN GEN DEPTH 72FT. BOWS FACE W. WK IS DIFFICULT TO LOCATE AS IT LIES AMONGST ISOLATED CROP OF ROCKS WHICH RISE TO SIMILAR HEIGHT. (M WALSH, 19.8.85). CHART AS NDW IN REVISED POSN. BR STD. H2920/83 18.11.87 SONAR CONTACT OBTAINED CLOSED TO REPORTED POSN. NOT EXAM'D. (HMSML GLEANER, HI 199). NCA. HH091/005/01 5.12.03 EXAM'D 31.7.03 IN 5038.041N, 0058.733W [WGD] USING DGPS. SWEPT CLEAR 13.5, FOUL 13.8MTRS. LEAST E/S DEPTH 13.3 IN GEN DEPTH 17MTRS. NO SCOUR. LENGTH 15MTRS, WIDTH 5MTRS. DCS3 HT 3.4MTRS. LIES 090/270 DEGS. STRONG MAGNETIC ANOMALY. APPEARS ALMOST COMPLETELY BURIED. LIES IN AREA OF ROCK PINNACLES WHICH RISE TO A SIMILAR HT ABOVE THE SEABED. (NP 1016, HI 1005). AMEND SW 13.3MTRS.

LIES 190/360 DEGS (SIC). STRONG MAGNETIC ANOMALY. LIES AMONGST AN ISOLATED CROP OF ROCKS, NOT INTACT. (FURGO OSAE, HI 1279). RETAIN SW 13.3MTRS.
