Shipwreck details

Name: DANMARK (AFTER PART)

Length 149.7 meter, width: 20.7 meter, draught: 11, tonnage 10517 ton
Load: oil,flammable liquids and gases

Cause: 12.1.1940 built in 1931 by burmeister & wain. owned at time of loss by det danske petroleums a/s. oil engine, single shaft. passage aruba for nyborg. torpedoed by u-23 on 12.1.1940 in inganess bay & sank 10 days later. cargo 8,200 tons of petrol & 5,760 tons kerosene. the fore-part was refloated in 1941 & taken to inverkeithing to be used as a storage hulk. (dods, ww2sl, axis submarine successes, off scotland & ll ww2).
