Name: Cyrene
Length 92 meter, width: 12.8 meter, draught: 5.8, tonnage 4448 ton
Load: ballast
Cause: positional analysis: ub64 (not uc31 was responsible for this sinking, as described) position forthis attack is not recorded accurately in its ktb, but it is clear it was in caernarfon bay. only three persons survived the sinking and only a vague position was given to interrogatorsbut is clear the ship sank in caernarfon bay.archival analysis: the account of the sinking (tna adm 137/2964) gives a time which matches with an attack in this area by ub64 (ktb). the damage (hit in engine room starboard side) and course of ship (given in ktb as 170deg, as per the wreck) both match spindler's attribution to uc31 cannot be correct as the timings differ by several hours. the attack reported by uc31 was on the steamship clam, which survived (tna adm 137/1516). spindler attributed this to ub64. when substituted for each other, the timings and positions clearly match correctly. uc31 attacked clam and ub64 sunk cyrene
