Cause: built in 1928 by w gray & co ltd in west hartlepool. owned at time of loss by the british steam shipping co ltd. three boilers, triple expansion engine of 423 hp, single shaft. machinery by central marine engineering works, west hartlepool. passage st john's for hull. bombed by german aircraft and badly damaged. beached in mountainous seas and became a total loss. crew of 27 all recovered except for the captain who remained on the vessel and was lost. (sibi).

Details measurements/cartography: H1310/88 4.2.88 WK LIES JUST S OF HOLY ISLAND, NEAR ROSS BACK SANDS. TWO BOILERS AND ENGINE REMAIN TOGETHER WITH MUCH WRECKAGE ON OR UNDER THE SAND. BOWS NOT FOUND, BUT STERN MORE OR LESS INTACT AND VERY MUCH DOWN INTO THE SAND WITH ONLY TOP OF RUDDER POST SHOWING. OWNED BY BRITISH STEEL CORPORATION, WHICH HAS ALLOTTED SALVAGE RIGHTS TO O.P.E.C. (HOLDINGS) LTD. THE CONDENSER HAS BEEN SALVAGED. (D COX. 14.1.88). NCA. HH100/351/15 20.10.99 LIES IN 5538.358N, 0145.155W [WGD]. BROKEN INTO THREE PARTS. DUE TO THE SHIFTING SANDS THE STERN PART IS SOMETIMES COVERED BUT THE BOW AND CENTRE SECTION USUALLY STAND CLEAR. BOILER TOPS ARE ALMOST LEVEL WITH THE SURFACE AT LW SPRINGS. BOILERS ARE SPLIT OPEN. LIES N/S, NEARLY PARALLEL WITH THE BEACH, WHILE THE STERN, AND LARGEST, SECTION IS ABOUT 75MTRS TO THE N OF THE BOILERS. BOW SECTION STANDS ABOUT FOUR MTRS HIGH AND LIES ABOUT 250MTRS SE OF THE BOILERS. (R YOUNG). HH100/351/15 4.11.99 PREVIOUS POSN INCORRECT. BOILERS ARE IN 5438.358N, 0145.900W [?WGD]. STERN END LIES 70-80MTRS DUE NORTH FROM THE BOILERS, THE BOW SECTION LIES ABOUT 200MTRS ESE OF THE BOILERS. STERN END IS SHAPED LIKE A BOX, STANDING ON ONE CORNER, ABOUT 3-3.5MTRS HIGH. SURROUNDED BY A BIG SCOUR. THE BOILERS ARE JUST AWASH AT THE SPRING TIDE BUT THE STERN AND BOWS ARE ALWAYS BELOW THE SURFACE. (R YOUNG, LTR DTD 1.11.99). HH100/351/20 22.9.03 DIVED IN 5538.358N, 0145.955W [WGD]. STANDS 4MTRS HIGH BY DEPTH GAUGE. BROKEN UP BOILER SECTION SITTING UPRIGHT ON A FLAT, SANDY BOTTOM. KELP ON THE HIGHER SECTIONS IS JUST VISIBLE FROM THE SURFACE. IN THE SAME AREA THERE ARE SEVERAL SECTIONS OF PLATES AND SPARS SEMI-BURIED IN THE SAND. BOW SECTION IS SOME DISTANCE AWAY.
