Cause: built in 1923 by j priestman & co, sunderland. owned at time of loss by h enfield ss co ltd. two boilers, triple expansion engine of 186nhp, single shaft. vessel was ohms at time of loss. passage st helen's & portsmouth for the clyde. in ballast. part of convoy cw9. sunk by air attack. crew of 21 saved. (ll wwii, d c wendes & sibi).

CHART AS WK 17FMS [31MTRS]. BR STD. 2.3.60 GOOD SONAR CONTACT, GOOD POSN 502548N, 014212W. (AUBD 304/62, ESCORT GROUP 17, 14.2.45). HH100/351/13 30.1.98 ALMOST CERTAINLY THE WK OF 'COQUETDALE'. POSN OF WK IS CONSISTENT WITH THAT GIVEN BY SURVIVORS. THE SIZE AND LAYOUT OF THE WK FITS THAT OF THE 'COQUETDALE'. HULL PLATING BLOWN OUTWARDS IS CONSISTENT WITH SURVIVORS' ACCOUNTS OF BOMBS LANDING WITHIN THE SHIP AND EXPLODING. (D C WENDES, 28.1.98).
